Gyprock™ - Australian for Plasterboard since 1947

In 2012, Gyprock™ celebrates 65 years of industry leading innovation – with much more in the pipeline!

The Gyprock™ journey began in Concord, NSW in 1947. As the first company to introduce paper-faced plasterboard to Australia 65 years ago, Gyprock™ has a proud history of industry leading innovation to celebrate.

After leading the Australian market in 1947 with the launch of paper-faced plasterboard, Gyprock™ followed up with numerous first-to-market achievements, including the 1968 launch of a revolutionary Base Coat, known today as Base Coat 45, the first Cornice Cement in 1974, the introduction of a patented Control Density technology in 1992, and Australia’s first GECA accredited plasterboard, EC08 in 2008. Amongst other product achievements, Gyprock™ has helped shape some of the nation’s most prominent public buildings, including Canberra’s Parliament House, the Melbourne Recital Hall and the restoration of Sydney’s Opera House.

Gyprock™ is Australia’s leading manufacturer of gypsum based products such as plasterboard, plaster, cornices and associated finishing materials and accessories. The company supplies a comprehensive range of high performance products and systems for many applications to meet fire, acoustic and thermal requirements across all segments of the construction industry.

To complement its strong retail presence in major hardware and building material retail outlets, Gyprock™ also operates around 100 Gyprock™ Trade Centres and Internal Lining Specialist outlets across the country. These trade focused outlets supply everything the plastering trade needs from boards and cornices to compounds, tapes and tools. The growing range includes Cemintel™ Fibre Cement Wallboard, Bradford™ Insulation and a wide range of tools and accessories.

Gyprock™ is a division of CSR Building Products, one of Australia’s largest building materials companies with a strong history of manufacturing in Australia.

CSR's main operating businesses are: Building Products and Aluminium, through its shareholding in the Tomago aluminium smelter in NSW.
