StrataWall™ Pleases Strata and More
01 February, 2008
Noise transfer between units at a new Gold Coast apartment building will be kept to a minimum thanks to the innovative performance of Gyprock StrataWall™.
Gyprock's new StrataWall™ was installed for the first time in Queensland to meet the strict acoustic and fire ratings for all inter-tenancy and corridor-to-tenancy walls.
Reflections Two, a stunning 20-storey high-rise building containing more than 100 apartments has just been completed at Coolangatta and CSR’s new StrataWall™ was installed for the first time in Queensland to meet the strict acoustic and fire ratings for all inter-tenancy and corridor-to-tenancy walls.
Reflections Two sits next to its ‘sister’ Reflections, which was completed a year ago. Overlooking the ocean with its 104 boutique units, penthouse space, retail opportunities and restaurants on the ground floor, it offers the perfect beachside lifestyle.
With such a large number of people and activities coexisting in the one space, acoustic issues were a critical consideration for the developer and builder. At the planning stage, developer Niecon instructed the builder Matrix that the inter-tenancy walls needed to meet the acoustic performance of Rw 55.
Matrix and Southpak, the contractor, selected Stratawall™ because CSR could validate its claims for fire and acoustic performance. CSR organised for a sample wall to be built and tested it for acoustic performance.
The builder was extremely impressed with the final results, especially with the fact that StrataWall™ met its stringent requirements relating to acoustic performance. Matrix liked the fact that StrataWall™ was a plasterboard system, because it meant that one contractor had control of how the walls were built, ensuring the integrity of the system was maintained. StrataWall™’s ease and speed of installation and low weight also influenced the decision to select it.
Approximately 4,500sqm of StrataWall™ was installed at Reflections Two for all inter-tenancy and corridor to tenancy walls on each of the building’s 20 floors. An acoustic site test was conducted prior to fit-out to validate system performance. On completion, another acoustic site test was conducted to confirm the revised acoustic rating of Rw 59 had been achieved.
George MacQueen, from, Southpak, says he appreciated how easy it was to install StrataWall™. “It was very good to use,” says George. “It was lightweight, easy to cut, quick to work with and the acoustic results were amazing.”
Plastering contactors have consistently told CSR that they find StrataWall™ easier to install than comparable composite systems. Installing the shaft liner panels requires less lifting than other systems because of its folding track. Similarly, abutments and corners are easy to handle because the folding track allows for greater access in tight areas.
Reflections Two was completed in late 2007. For more information on CSR StrataWall™, please contact 1300 306 556
