Wet Area Solutions
Long-term exposure to steam, moisture build-up or water spills can drastically affect the appearance of your laundry, bathroom and kitchen. Damaged plasterboard, sagging wall cladding covered in mould and mildew, flaking paint and gypsum and detached 'waterproof' tiling, Can all occur without the right protection.
The Solution - Gyprock Aquachek™
Gyprock Aquachek™ plasterboard is designed especially for wet areas…to keep them dry! Its resistance to water and humidity ensures your walls stay in excellent condition. Aquachek is ideal for a modern bathroom design or even DIY bathroom renovations.
Using Aquachek in your laundry, bathroom and kitchen will protect your walls from unnecessary damage and keep your home looking good for many years to come.

How it works
Aquachek plasterboard has unique moisture resistant additives in the core and specially treated face and back linerboards to act as a barrier to moisture. Aquachek reduces 'wicking' of moisture through the wallboard from areas exposed to moisture and also maintains its strength when exposed to moisture for extended periods.
Note: Aquachek is not intended for total waterproofing or use in the construction of immersed or permanently wet areas.
The Trouble With Water
Any handyman or home hardware supplier will tell you that standard plasterboard will not handle prolonged contact with water. The picture on the left shows a sheet of standard gypsum board that has been immersed in water for seven days. It has started to crumble and disintegrate and the lining paper has detached.
The picture on the right shows a sheet of Aquachek that was also immersed in water for seven days. The Aquachek remains undamaged and structurally intact.

Construction
Gyprock Aquachek™ is fixed to the frame with screws or nails. In showers and other wet areas, it is coated with a waterproof membrane before being tiled. In other areas of the laundry, kitchen and bathroom, the sheets may be tiled directly or simply painted. Gyprock Aquachek™ has the core and both linerboards treated to make them resistant to moisture and humidity. It is manufactured to satisfy the requirements of ASTM C630.
