Impactchek™ adds strength to nursing homes
21 November, 2008
Gyprock Impactchek™ has been the plasterboard of choice for three nursing home projects in regional NSW over the last two years.
The 13mm impact resistant specialty plasterboard was chosen by building designer Bob Charleston of RM Charleston Design, for the wall linings of all patient rooms at the Mareeba Nursing Home in Maclean, the Grafton Nursing Home in Grafton, and more recently, the Roseneath Nursing Home in Glen Innes, which is due for completion in April this year.
“We required a strong, impact-resistant plasterboard for room walls where beds are often moved around by staff. Gyprock Impactchek™ was installed for the lower half of the walls to prevent wall damage such as dents and puncturing,” Mr Charleston said.
No visible wall damage is evident at either the Mareeba Nursing Home, which was completed two years ago or at the Grafton Nursing Home, completed a year ago – a true testament to ImpactchekTM plasterboard’s hard wearing structure.
Gyprock Fyrchek™ 13mm was also used in all nursing homes to line the walls above bed level, where impact strength was not required. As both plasterboard products are the same thickness, no cover strip or expressed joint detail was required between the sheets.
Impressed with the product’s proven strength and durability, Mr Charleston has specified Gyprock Impactchek™ in another project – the Glenwood Frail Aged Complex in Glen Innes, which has just gone to tender.
Made from bonded fibreglass and reinforced mesh, Gyprock Impactchek™ plasterboard is suitable for a range of applications such as corridors, foyers and stair shafts in commercial buildings, shopping centres, cinemas, offices, sports stadiums, schools, hospitals, and walls in public transport structures such as railway stations or bus airport terminals. It can also be used as a substitute for 13mm Gyprock Fyrchek™ in fire rated walls.
