EC08 Impact - Namadgi School

17 May, 2012

CSR Gyprock’s EC08 Impact plasterboard has been specified for the construction of a new primary and secondary school called Namadgi School, which is currently being built on the site of the old Kambah High School.

The design of the school is environmentally sustainable and features solar passive design, natural ventilation using solar thermal chimney, use of grey for toilet flushing and underground rainwater storage tanks.

Completion, expected by end of 2011, will see the school include an English learning unit, specialist learning facilities, school hall, gymnasium, multi-purpose rooms and tennis courts.

The fitout is being carried out by Tilton Interiors Pty Ltd. Kosta Pohorukov, Manager of Tilton Interiors, says, “We chose to swap the specification from standard gypsum fibre board to EC08 Impact for several reasons.

“Firstly, CSR Gyprock was willing to make a customised length to suit this particular project, and the fact that EC08 Impact is GEGA certified meant it fitted in well with the sustainability design requirements of the project.

“Our installation costs for EC08 Impact are also lower than for gypsum fibre board as the product is easier for my team to install, as it cuts easier and has better formed recesses. EC08 Impact is more impact resistant than gypsum fibre board which can be scored on site and then requires us to have to patch the surface. An additional benefit is that CSR Gyprock also guarantees the joints.”

CSR Gyprock Commercial Sales Manager Antoine Veling says, “The total supply of 13mm EC08 Impact product is approximately 10,900 sq m, and up to 60% of the job requires a customised length of plasterboard. (The standard length of EC08 Impact is 3.6m.) For this project, CSR Gyprock has manufactured a special length of 4.8m in order to help Tilton Interiors save time on site and minimise butt joints.”

EC08 Impact is one of the three boards in the Gyprock EC08 range that carry Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) and can contribute to Green Star points in the Green Building Council Australia’s calculators. The original Gyprock EC08™ launched in 2008 was first Australian-made plasterboard to have been certified by GECA.

The EC08 Impact boards are produced with the highest level of recycled content found in the Gyprock™ standard or fire rated range of plasterboard, but unlike mesh reinforced plasterboard, they can also be recycled rather than add to the growing waste problem. In addition, EC08 Impact is easier to cut than mesh reinforced impact grade plasterboard, making it easier to work with.

The Gyprock EC08™ range is available in 13mm thickness and in three grades – partition, fire rated and impact rated.
