Gyprock EC08 Impact is part of Gyprock’s Commercial Specialty Options range of plasterboards. It is a fire and acoustic rated board designed with high levels of both soft and hard body impact resistance.
It is low VOC with a high level of recycled content and is GECA accredited making it ideal for high impact risk areas in green building projects.
Gyprock EC08 Impact is not suitable where it would be in contact with water or for environments with a constant relative humidity above 90%. For wet areas, the following products would be more suitable:
- Gyprock EC08™ Impact MR
- Gyprock EC08™ Complete
- Gyprock Fyrchek™ MR
Gyprock EC08 Impact is manufactured in Australia to Australian Standard AS2588 and the heavy-duty face paper is a green colour.
The consistently high quality of Gyprock’s products is maintained by a continued focus on quality control and product testing. Internal testing to AS2588 is conducted in a CSR, NATA Accredited Laboratory. Independent specialist testing consultants are also used.
Impact resistant – for high traffic areas
Hard body Impact
Hard body impact resistance is generally required where there is a risk of direct impact damage such as in hospital corridors.
For this test, a 50mm diameter steel ball is dropped onto the board from increasing heights until failure occurs. Gyprock EC08 Impact provides a high level of hard body impact compared to standard plasterboard.
Soft body Impact
Soft body impact resistance is generally an issue where there is a risk of someone falling against or putting pressure against a wall.
To test for soft body impact resistance, a weighted bag (27.2kg) is swung on a pendulum from increasing heights to strike the board sample until failure occurs. Gyprock EC08 Impact provides a superior level of soft body impact resistance.
Fire rated – for fire and smoke walls
The BCA/NCC limits the materials used in Class 2 to 9 buildings by controlling the Fire Hazard properties of linings. These properties are assessed using AS/NZS3837 cone calorimeter test. Gyprock EC08 Impact satisfies the requirements of the Average Specific Extinction Area standard and achieves a Group 1 rating – the best available.
When incorporated in a recommended Gyprock EC08 system, fire ratings of up to –/120/120 FRL can be achieved.
Acoustic rated – for better sound insulation
The density, or mass of a wall lining material directly affects the wall’s ability to insulate against sound transmission. Gyprock EC08 Impact is manufactured to a mass of 12.1kg/m2.
High acoustic rated systems are easily achieved with EC08 Impact. Please refer to the Gyprock Red Book for further details.
Ideal for Green Star building
Along with the majority of Gyprock plasterboards, EC08 Impact is accredited to the latest Good Environmental Choice Australia 04 – 2011 Panel Boards Standard (GECA) which is compliant with the requirements of the Green Building Council of Australia’s Assessment Framework for product certification schemes.
Gyprock’s GECA accredited plasterboard and compound products can contribute to Green Star Points in the Green Star Design & As Built rating tool. EC08 Impact is also manufactured with a high level of recycled content that may further assist in the achievement of Green Star Points.
EC08 Impact is available in 13mm thickness in 1200mm wide panels of either 3000mm or 3600mm lengths. The long edges of all panels are recessed for flush jointing.
EC08 Impact is predominantly specified for commercial green building projects where a higher level of impact resistance is required.
